The concert culture has been gradually increasing in our region lately. From veteran to modern and composers to singers, many have started doing live concerts and the trend is getting popular among the people. However, some of these events witness unfortunate mishaps.
Isai Puyal AR Rahman’s ‘Marakkuma Nenjam’ concert met with a tragic fate last year as the venue was overcrowded due to poor management, which resulted in the fans getting injured and even molested in the crowd. Now, a concert mishap has been reported in renowned singer Hariharan’s concert which took place yesterday in Jaffna, Sri Lanka.
Singer Hariharan’s musical event unfolded at the Jaffna Open Air Arena on Friday night. Apart from the free entry, many had brought tickets from Rs 3000 to Rs 25000. Reportedly, the spectators from the free ticket zone started invading the paid ticket zones which caused friction. The control was lost because of this and people were injured.
We hear that the police officials used batons to control the crowd. The event organizers have said that there is no fault from their side and that the problem was caused by the entry of free spectators. They added that the event was interrupted only for a short time and it continued smoothly afterwards. However, the viewers blame the negligence of the organisers for the mishap.
