Two individuals were detained by the police at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport on Friday (April 5) for allegedly claiming to possess a ‘nuclear bomb’ during a security check.
The detained passengers were identified as Jignesh Malani and Kashyap Kumar Lalani, both hailing from Rajkot in Gujarat.
According to the Delhi police, Malani and Lalani questioned the need for security screening, asserting that they had already been checked before boarding the Akasa Air flight.
The FIR stated, “Secondary Ladder Point Security (SLPC) for Akasa Air flight (DEL-AMD) was going on… staff asked Jignesh Malani and Kashyap Kumar Lalani for frisking. During frisking, one of them commented, “What are you checking when it is already done?”.
Despite the staff’s explanation regarding the security procedure, the passengers became irritated, with one allegedly stating they were carrying a nuclear bomb. After this incident, the passengers were not allowed to board the flight to ensure the safety of all occupants and the aircraft.
Rahul Sharma, the security supervisor of Akasa Air, SNV Aviation Private Limited, lodged a complaint at IGI police station.
