Deals: Motorola Edge 50 Pro now available, Samsung Galaxy S23 prices slashed

The Motorola Edge 50 Pro launched in Europe this week with a curved 6.7” OLED display (144Hz) and a (vegan) leather or wood back. It looks fancy and it has the price to match – €700.

Compared to the Edge 40 Pro from last year, the display has a higher resolution (1220p+ vs. 1080p+) and you get a longer tele lens (3x vs. 2x), plus wireless charging for the 4,500mah battery was upgraded to 50W (up from 15W, both do 125W wired charging). However, the new Pro has a Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset, which seems like a poor follow-up to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 of its predecessor. You get plenty of RAM and storage, but if you want more power, maybe wait until the Edge 50 Ultra becomes available.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 was a fairly minor upgrade – it got an LTPO panel for the display (finally), but the other changes are quite minor (e.g. 6.1” display to 6.2” and 3,900mAh battery to 4,000mAh). The Exynos 2400 proved quite capable, but the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is still pretty spritely.

We bring it up as the old Galaxy S23 is under €600 for the 128GB version and the 256GB one costs €630. Note that the S24 series gets much better software support (7 years of OS and security updates), but the 128GB unit costs €900 right now. The S23 still has 3 OS updates and 4 years of patches to go. And it got the Galaxy AI features that were introduced by the S24 series.

There’s also the Samsung Galaxy S23+ at €670 for the 8/256GB unit. The S24+ was a more meaningful upgrade (1440p+ LTPO display, 12GB of RAM), but Samsung Germany has it at €1,150 right now.

For comparison, the Samsung Galaxy S23 FE is down to €620 for an 8/128GB unit. The European variant came with the Exynos 2200, which isn’t nearly as good as the 2400. This makes the S23 vs. S23 FE question pretty easy to answer.

There is only one configuration of Motorola Moto G84 left in stock – 12GB of RAM and 256GB storage. The good news is that this costs only €230. And you can add a microSD for even more storage. The Snapdragon 695 isn’t great, but the 6.5” 120hz OLED display (1080p+, 10-bit colors) is quite good. The phone also has a 50MP main camera (1/1.5”, OIS) and 8MP ultra wide, plus a 3.5mm headphone jack, stereo speakers and a 5,000mAh battery (30W charging).

If you’re in the market for a cheap tablet, the Samsung Galaxy A9 is down to €150. This one is small as tablets go, with an 8.7” LCD (1,340 x 800px) and is powered by the Helio G99 and a 5,100mAh batter (15W charging).
