Congress workers hold a meeting on candidature of Sofia Firdous for Barabati-Cuttack seat
The likelihood of Congress fielding Sofia Firdous, daughter of senior Congress leader Mohammed Moquim, from the Barabati-Cuttack Assembly seat increased further after workers of the Cuttack Nagar Congress Committee brainstormed and moved a proposal on the issue at a meeting on Wednesday evening.
Sofia Firdous was present in the meeting amid speculations that she may be picked as the Congress candidate for the seat, as Moquim may not contest the election due to the ORHDC loan scam case. He could not get a stay on the Orissa High Court order pertaining to the case.
As per reports, a meeting of the supporters of Moquim was held at his residence today evening where a proposal for his daughter’s candidature was moved. The proposal to make Sofia a candidate was supported by local leaders and it will be sent to the party leadership for approval, sources said.
No reactions were received from Moquim and his daughter.
