In the post, the engineer said that switching jobs is the only way to reach high salaries

When millions of people are still eagerly waiting for their appraisals after the end of the financial cycle, a social media post on the same topic went viral. An engineer in India called the appraisals a “joke”, telling people the “hard truth”. He said that “switching jobs is the only way to reach high salaries”.

Some companies have completed the process of appraisals, but employees are still waiting for their annual salary hikes in some companies. Sadly, some companies have already announced that there will be no increments due to the market risks.

Amid the chaos and confusion over switching jobs among employees in several industries, bold comments by Akshay Saini, who is a Dehradun-based engineer, showcase the harsh reality of the corporate appraisal system.

His post also stirred a social media debate.

Here’s his post:

The HARD TRUTH is,
if you start your career with a Low Salary,
you will have to switch jobs to reach High salary.
(as a Software Engineer)

The HARD TRUTH is,
Internal appraisals are very low.
Internal promotion process is broken.
(in most companies)

low_appraisal% of low_salary=new_low_salary

If you start with a low salary,
switching jobs gets you much more salary hikes!

That’s the reason you will see a lot of highly paid software engineers (who started from a low salary) must have switched jobs frequently.

So,
If you’re stuck in a low paying job,
and have tried to get a raise or a promotion and FAILED,
consider Switching your job!

SALARY is as important as GOOD WORK

Lastly remember,
`If you’re underpaid, it’s YOUR fault.`

Cheers,
Akshay Saini

DISCLAIMER:
Only switch your job if you really are underpaid. Don’t be GREEDY.
PS. `Greed has no cure`

Some people agreed with what he said, with one user saying: “Since I don’t trust in appraisal system I finish it in 10 min, while many were happy doing it for hours together with manager. Yes switching job is the only way to boost your salary. Even if you are switching internal focus on the money you get not the position.”

One user even asked for an opinion. He wrote: “True! But being in organisation for long time around 9 year’s , switching.. a feel of fear. How to overcome it, that needs to work upon.”

One user spoke slightly against it, noting: “High no. of job changes can make ur profile look unstable. A balance needs to be striked. Good organisations will always want to retain top talent & will pay higher if u can clearly show the value u bring to the table, get clients to be happy & generate good revenue opportunities.”
