Any plans to visit Nagpur? The city boils at 56°C amid heatwave

India is currently experiencing unprecedented heatwaves, with both Delhi and Nagpur registering record-breaking temperatures that have raised significant concerns across the nation. Just days after Delhi’s scorching 52.9 degrees Celsius, Nagpur has now reported temperatures soaring past the 50-degree mark.

If reports are to go by, on Thursday, Nagpur recorded a staggering 56 degrees Celsius. This record temperature was observed at two of the four Automatic Weather Stations (AWS) set up by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Nagpur. The Nagpur AWS, located in the 24-hectare open agriculture field in Ramdaspeth, registered the highest temperature at 56 degrees Celsius. The AWS in Sonegaon also recorded an alarming 54 degrees Celsius.

Other AWS locations in Nagpur reported lower, yet still extreme, temperatures. The AWS at the Central Institute of Cotton Research (CICR) fields in Khapri, and the Ramtek AWS both recorded 44 degrees Celsius, indicating widespread high temperatures across the region.

A few days ago, the heatwave gripping Delhi made headlines with a historic 52.9 degrees Celsius. If reports are to go by, the Mungeshwar AWS data is currently under scrutiny for verification. This surge in temperature came just a day after Delhi neared 50 degrees Celsius at three of its outer area weather stations – Mungeshpur, Narela, and Najafgarh. Previously, Rajasthan’s Churu was noted as the warmest district of the season, hitting 50.5 degrees Celsius.
