Police housing corporation to set up training centre for green building practices

Gurgaon: The Haryana Police Housing Corporation (HPHC) is all set to launch a training and demonstration centre for green building practices in Panchkula. The centre aims at promoting eco-friendly construction techniques and providing educational opportunities for both professionals and the public.
Traditionally focused on housing for police personnel, the corporation is expanding its mission to include sustainability in construction practices.

“The centre will showcase advanced green building technologies, including solar energy systems, water conservation methods, and sustainable materials. It also plans to host workshops and lectures to engage students, local builders, and the public,” HPHC managing director OP Singh said.
Construction of the centre is expected to begin soon, with HPHC seeking partnerships with govt agencies and educational institutions to enhance its impact and ensure its role as a vital regional resource, he added.

“Visitors will find dedicated zones that highlight solar energy systems, water conservation techniques, sustainable materials, and energy-efficient construction methods. We envision this centre as more than just a training facility — it’s a demonstration of our commitment to sustainability,” said Singh.
Outlining the corporation’s strategy on energy efficiency, renewable energy, sustainable materials, and advanced water management systems for the design and construction of police buildings, he said architects working on these projects are tasked with designing buildings that minimise energy consumption from the outset.

“This includes optimising building orientation to take full advantage of natural light and ventilation, incorporating advanced insulation techniques, and using energy-efficient materials. The aim is to create structures that require less energy to heat, cool, and light, thereby reducing the overall energy demand,” he added.
Additionally, the centre will house a ‘sustainable materials showcase’, offering a library of eco-friendly building materials like bamboo, recycled steel, and green roofing solutions. This immersive environment will inspire architects, engineers, and construction professionals to explore sustainable alternatives, officials said.
The corporation also plans to host workshops, lectures, and interactive sessions to make the facility accessible to students, local builders, and anyone interested in green practices.
