COIMBATORE: Pending work on an up ramp and a down ramp on the
Ukkadam flyover
has been completed, and the
ramps
would be opened to motorists on Monday (Sept 9) morning, state highways dept officials said on Friday.
The up ramp and the down ramp connect the Ukkadam flyover with the
Sungam Bypass
.
People travelling on the Ukkadam-Athupalam flyover can reach the Sungam Bypass by using the down ramp.
People heading towards the Ukkadam flyover from the Sungam Bypass can use the up ramp.
The length of the up ramp and the down ramp is 180 metre each. Each ramp is 5.5 metre wide.
The
state highways department
has laid
bitumen road
on the flyover for a stretch of 180 metre each on the up ramp and the down ramp. Streetlamps have been fixed.
“After the
construction
of the flyover, traffic snarls have been drastically reduced in Ukkadam and surrounding areas,” a state highways department official said.
The total length of the Ukkadam-Athupalam flyover is 3.8 km, including the main carriageway which is 1.8 km in length.
The state govt allotted Rs 320 crore for the construction of the flyover and Rs 160 crore for acquiring land for the project.
Initially, the state govt had planned to construct a flyover between the Ukkadam and Karumbukadai. Later, it was extended – from Karumbukkadai to Athupalam Junction.
