BGB assures BSF to hand over kidnapped Tripura youth in Bangladesh

AGARTALA: The Border Guard of Bangladesh (

BGB

) on Friday assured its Indian counterpart BSF after a flag meeting on Thursday about the release of the youth from Tripura who was kidnapped across the border last week when returning home with a proper passport and valid visa.
BGB informed BSF that a miscreant involved in abducting

Chelaphru Mog

(32), a resident of Radhanagar in Belonia of

South Tripura

in Bangladesh has been arrested and the abducted person is now in the custody of

Bangladesh police

at Chattogram.

“After all formalities, he will be handed over to BSF soon,” a BSF statement said.
According to the report, Mog had gone to Bangladesh on September 13 through Muhurighat check post in Belonia while returning on September 18 his wife received a phone call from an unknown Bangladeshi national and said her husband was kidnapped. To get him released need to pay a ransom of Rs 1 lakh for releasing her husband, the caller said, had been kidnapped.

Chelaphru’s wife Swapna Mog, paid Rs 20,000 to the account number given by the abductor caller online but the kidnapper reportedly didn’t agree to release him without the total payment. Finding no other option, she allegedly approached the police station seeking the safe return of her husband on Wednesday, but she was subjected to harassment.
Then, she went to Muhurighat check post, and the officer in immigration advised her to go close to the border and speak over the phone to the abductor caller and Bangladesh police. He also gave her a companion who is immigration staff. But further trouble awaited her as the BSF jawan posted along the border misbehaved with the immigration employee and drove him away.

The BSF jawan also stormed the immigration office and abused the staff but Swapna clung to the border with her only son and received information from the Bangladesh side on the phone that Bangladesh police had rescued her husband.
According to BSF, responding to the grievance of the abducted person’s wife, the BSF approached BGB and then a Company commander-level flag meeting was held between Belonia BOP and Majumdarhat BGB BOP. During the meeting, the BSF Commander condemned the incident and conveyed serious concern about the abduction of the Indian National in Bangladesh.
The BGB Commander intimated to the BSF that one miscreant involved in the case was arrested by Bangladesh police and a massive search is on for apprehending the absconding miscreants and handing him over to BSF.
