Odisha Revenue Department seems to be in action mood as all the district Collectors in the State have been directed by the government to take action against the officials neglecting duties within 15 days.
In a letter issued by the department, it has been clearly mentioned that many officials are neglecting their duties to provide necessary services to the people for which they have to visit Bhubaneswar and the Collectors have been directed to take action against such officials.
“Some departmental officials are neglecting their duties in providing services to the people. They are not solving the issues of the people at the ground level and as a result, they have to come to Bhubaneswar. People are facing financial issues and hardships due to this. It has also come to the notice of the department that, the complaints of people are not accepted on a regular basis without any hearing,” read the letter.
“The problems are arising as the field officials at the ground level are not taking up responsibilities. Higher authorities are not taking any action against those officials neglecting their duties. If these kinds of complaints are received, disciplinary proceedings will be taken against the concerned officials within 15 days and exemplary punishment will be given,” the letter further read.
“Odisha government has assigned work to the officials. If they don’t execute the work properly and on time, they will be punished. We have suspended as many as seven Tehsildars so far,” said Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari.
As per reports, common people are facing lots of problems at the ground level due to officials neglecting their duties.
Take the case of Bijay Jena, who is a resident of Badapokhari village under Kupari RI office in Balasore district. Though Jena has applied for land patta for a long time, he is yet to get it. Meanwhile, another resident Bijay Barik is yet to get his legal heir certificate despite running to the RI and Tehsil offices several times.
“As the resident of the area, I need a land patta for the future of my children. However, I am yet to get the land patta despite applying for it for a long time,” said Jena.
“I am yet to get the legal heir certificate even after two and half months despite visiting the Tehsil office more than 10 times and the medical for six times,” rued Barik.
