Chennai and coastal Tamil Nadu brace for heavy rainfall: IMD issues yellow alert

As per the latest development, several districts in Tamil Nadu, including the capital Chennai, will see heavy rainfall on Thursday, November 7. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also issued a yellow alert for Chennai, Kancheepuram, Chengalpet, and eight other districts, which will likely see rainfall between 6 cm and 12 cm within a 24-hour period. This intense weather is due to a cyclonic circulation over the south Bay of Bengal, creating a large-scale wind movement that’s bringing moisture to the region.

The IMD has indicated that the rain may continue over the next 48 hours, supported by a north-south trough extending from the cyclonic circulation. According to N Senthamarai Kannan, the IMD’s regional director, rain activity may persist for at least four days, though it may vary between day and night.
