Over 1 lakh ghost ration card holders detected during E-KYC verification
Over 1 lakh ghost ration card holders existed under Odisha’s food security scheme, informed Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra in the Assembly on Wednesday. After e-KYC verification, as many as 1,77, 068 ghost ration card holders have been deleted from the list.
The Aadhaar-based e-KYC verification was conducted for 2024-25 to bring transparency to the beneficiary list under the food security scheme in Odisha. The entire process is a continuous process and it will continue in coming days as well, the Minister said.
Out of the total 3, 36,35,918 PDS beneficiaries, the e-KYC verification process has been completed for 2, 69,23,830 beneficiaries.
The names of beneficiaries, who have died, are being deleted from the ration card list. Similarly, new and eligible beneficiaries will be added and subsequently new ration cards will be issued to them, the Minister said.
As per official data, the Odisha government has received 6, 19, 836 applications for new ration cards under the food security scheme in the state. The Odisha government has reportedly fixed 10 parameters for enrollment and issuing new ration cards. The process is already underway to delete the ghost ration card holders and addition of eligible beneficiaries in the state.
