JAIPUR: In an elaborate scheme to commit

insurance fraud

, a man allegedly murdered a beggar by running him over with a truck and planted his own identification documents at the scene to stage his death in Banswara district. Initially, this misled the police; however, they grew suspicious and arrested two of his accomplices on Saturday. The main accused remains at large.
A police officer said that an unidentified body was discovered on December 1 along National Highway 56 in the Sallopat area. The victim, later identified as Tofan Bairwa, a scavenger and beggar from Kota, was crushed under a truck. Documents found near the body indicated the victim was Narendra Singh Rawat from Guwardi, Ajmer.
When police contacted Rawat’s family, they denied recognising the body. Further investigation revealed that Rawat, deep in debt and holding several insurance policies, plotted to fake his death to claim the money and settle his debts.
Rawat reportedly befriended a disabled beggar, Bherulal, from Chittorgarh district and involved him in the plan. Together, they lured Bairwa with the promise of a job in Gujarat. Over four days, they intoxicated him with alcohol while waiting for their accomplice, a truck driver named Ibrahim, to join them, the officer said.

On November 30, the trio finalised their plan. Narendra promised Bherulal ₹85,000 and Ibrahim ₹65,000 for their roles. That night, they took Bairwa to a secluded spot in Sallopat. After heavily intoxicating him, they placed his unconscious body under the wheels of a cement-laden truck, which Ibrahim then drove over to stage the accident.
During questioning, Bherulal confessed to the entire conspiracy, revealing how they planned the murder to fake Rawat’s death. He also implicated Ibrahim in the crime.
Both Bherulal and Ibrahim were arrested, while Narendra Singh remains on the run. Police are actively searching for him.
