Sirumugai Range Forest officials arrested five persons and recovered ivory tusks from them.
Police received a tip-off about the illegal sale of ivory tusks at a house in Siraj Nagar near Odanthurai. The accused have been identified as Gouse Mohideen, Ravi (both 47), Veeran alias Andisamy (46), Krishnakumar (36) and Kumar (45). A hunt is on for the other co-accused Manikandan.
The arrests took place at various locations, including Sathyamangalam, Mettuppalayam, Sirumugai, and Odanthurai. The recovered ivory tusks were presented before the Mettuppalayam Judicial Magistrate, and all five accused have been remanded to custody at Mettuppalayam prison.
