Chennai: The Chennai High Court has directed Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin to respond in an appeal case filed by a film producer seeking ₹25 crore in compensation for the incomplete shooting of the movie ‘Angel’.

Producer Ramasaravanan, owner of OSD Films, had filed a petition stating that the film ‘Angel’ was planned with Udhayanidhi Stalin as the lead actor, alongside Anandi, Payal Rajput, and Yogi Babu, under the direction of K.S. Adhiyaman. The shoot began in 2018, completing 80% of filming. However, when 20% remained, Udhayanidhi prioritized acting in ‘Maamannan’ and later declared it as his final film.

Ramasaravanan claimed an investment of ₹13 crore in the project and alleged that Udhayanidhi had not provided the remaining eight-day call sheet as per contract. He sought the completion of the film and ₹25 crore as compensation.

A single-judge bench had earlier dismissed Ramasaravanan’s petition. Challenging this decision, he filed an appeal in the Chennai High Court, where it was heard by Justices Anita Sumanth and Kumarappan on Monday. The court ordered Udhayanidhi Stalin to respond and postponed the hearing to March 18.
