The alternative film collective ‘Maruppakkam,’ guided by renowned documentary filmmaker R.P. Amudhan, has been organizing film screenings for the past 12 years. The 13th Chennai International Documentary & Short Film Festival, curated by this group, began today and will run from February 21 to 28.

In collaboration with various educational and cultural institutions in Chennai, this festival will showcase 80 new, award-winning, and critically acclaimed Indian and international documentaries, short films, experimental films, animation films, and mobile films. More than 20 directors from different parts of India will attend the festival to present their films and participate in discussions.

The festival will also screen international films from the UK, Canada, Iran, China, Germany, Mexico, Spain, Honduras, Cameroon, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Slovenia, Switzerland, France, Brazil, the USA, Poland, Nicaragua, Russia, South Korea, Egypt, and Israel.

Screenings will be held at prestigious educational institutions such as Dr. Ambedkar Arts College, Chennai Christian College, Asian College of Journalism, SRM University, Ethiraj Women’s College, MGR Film Institute, Anna University, and Icat Design & Media College. Additionally, films will be shown at Sathyam Cinemas, Periyar Thidal, and Discovery Book Palace. Entry is free, but prior registration is required.

This festival aims to promote a documentary film culture in Tamil Nadu and encourage artistic and intellectual discussions among the public.
