The movie “Kuravanji” was produced by Mekala Pictures, with M. Karunanidhi, R.M. Veerappan, and A. Kasilingam as producers. The story and dialogues were written by M. Karunanidhi in his unique style, while A. Kasilingam, a former editor turned director, directed the film.

A young man named Kathiravan, angered by the situation, gathers people to fight back. Meanwhile, Princess Kumari falls in love with Kathiravan, but he is in love with a fisherwoman named Ponni.
Sivaji Ganesan played Kathiravan, Savitri portrayed Princess Kumari, and Mainavathi played Ponni. Other notable actors included Pandari Bai, O.A.K. Thevar, Rajagopal, R. Balasubramaniam, and M.R. Santhanam.
T.R. Pappa composed the music, with lyrics by Thanjai Ramaiah Das, Ra. Krishnamurthy, and Kannadasan. Playback singers included C.S. Jayaraman, P. Susheela, P. Leela, A.L. Raghavan, Jikki, and Jamuna Rani. Originally, S.S. Rajendran was cast as Kathiravan, but he exited due to disagreements with Karunanidhi. Sivaji Ganesan was then approached and readily agreed after Karunanidhi personally requested him. Rajasulochana was initially cast as the lead actress but had to step down.
Released on March 4, 1960, the film had strong dialogues and performances but did not achieve significant success.
