Anurag Kashyap on Bollywood’s Toxicity: “The Joy of Filmmaking Is Gone”

Director Anurag Kashyap has stated that Bollywood has become highly toxic and he prefers to distance himself from the industry.

Speaking about it, he said, “I have moved out of Mumbai. Bollywood has turned extremely toxic, and I want to stay away from the film industry. Everyone is chasing unrealistic goals, trying only to make films worth ₹500 or ₹800 crores. The creative environment has completely disappeared.

A city is not just its infrastructure, but also its people. Here, people pull you down. I envy South Indian directors because it has become very tough for me to experiment now. Producers only think about profit. Even before a movie starts, we have to plan how to sell it. The joy of filmmaking has been drained away,” said Anurag Kashyap.
