Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced in the State Assembly that a government-organized felicitation ceremony will be held on June 2 to honor music composer Ilaiyaraaja.
During a debate on the Youth Welfare and Sports Development Department’s budget request, VCK leader Sindhanai Selvan urged the Tamil Nadu government to take immediate policy decisions regarding migrant workers in the state. He also highlighted Ilaiyaraaja’s remarkable achievement of performing a symphony concert in London and requested the government to arrange for Tamil Nadu residents to experience it.
Responding to this, Chief Minister Stalin stated that Ilaiyaraaja was given a warm welcome upon his return to Tamil Nadu after the symphony performance. He mentioned that he had inquired about the possibility of hosting the concert in Tamil Nadu, but Ilaiyaraaja explained that bringing a group of around 400 musicians immediately would be challenging. However, as a tribute to his illustrious 50-year journey in film music, the Tamil Nadu government has decided to organize a special felicitation event on his birthday, June 2.
