ZEE5 has released its latest original web series, Seruppugal Jaakirathai. Produced by Singaravelan under SS Group and directed by Rajesh Susairaj, this comedy series stars Singampuli, Vivek Rajgopal, Aira Agarwal, and Manohar in key roles.
The story revolves around a diamond smuggler who hides a valuable diamond inside a shoe. Fearing a police raid, he hands over the shoe to an auditor named Thyagarajan (played by Singampuli). However, Thyagarajan and his son Ilango end up losing the shoe. What follows is a chaotic hunt for the missing footwear, with multiple groups chasing after it.
Despite the absence of big stars, Singampuli carries the entire show on his shoulders, making up for it with his impeccable comic timing. Many of his scenes work well, delivering genuine laughs. However, the performances of other actors sometimes feel artificial, which could have been avoided.
A little more attention to the making could have resulted in a more polished and visually rich comedy series. Moreover, since every episode revolves around the search for the missing shoe, it can feel repetitive at times.
Cinematographer Gangadharan could have enhanced the visual appeal with more refined frames. LV Muthu Ganesh’s background score complements the comedy sequences with the right tempo. Written by Eluchur Aravindhan, the script has a solid comedic foundation, while editor Vilsi J. Sasi could have trimmed a few scenes for a crisper narrative.
Overall, Seruppugal Jaakirathai is the kind of show you wouldn’t pay to watch in theaters but is decent enough for home entertainment. It offers a few laugh-out-loud moments and serves as a lighthearted watch to pass the time.
