Earlier, the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 was suspended on Friday, May 9, a day after the Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals match in Dharamsala was called off after just 10.1 overs of play in the first innings, due to escalating tension between India and Pakistan.
Once that game in Dharamsala got called off, the BCCI opted to suspend the tournament for a week. On Monday, the BCCI confirmed that the BCCI held “extensive consultations with government and security agencies, and with all the key stakeholders,” before finalising the resumption of the tournament.
“The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is pleased to announce the resumption of the TATA IPL 2025. After extensive consultations with government and security agencies, and with all the key stakeholders, the Board has decided to proceed with the remainder of the season,” the BCCI said in a statement.
The Indian cricket board also hailed India’s armed forces for their bravery and resilience.
“The BCCI takes this opportunity to once again salute the bravery and resilience of India’s armed forces, whose efforts have enabled the safe return of cricket. The Board reaffirms its commitment to national interest while ensuring the successful completion of the league,” it said.
