Thug Life Box Office Collection: The highly awaited gangster drama Thug Life, starring Kamal Haasan and Silambarasan and directed by Mani Ratnam, had a mixed reception at the box office after its first three days. Released on June 5, 2025, in multiple formats including IMAX, the film marked a major reunion of Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam nearly 40 years after Nayakan.

According to box office tracker Cinetrak, the film earned ₹10.62 crore on Thursday (Day 1) in Tamil Nadu, but collections fell on Friday to ₹5.08 crore. Saturday saw slight improvement, with ₹6.22 crore, bringing the three-day total to ₹21.93 crore from tracked theaters.

Meanwhile, estimates by Sacnilk suggest higher net earnings across India, totaling ₹30.40 crore: ₹15.5 crore on Day 1, ₹7.15 crore on Day 2, and ₹7.75 crore on Day 3. The Tamil version contributed the bulk of earnings, while Hindi and Telugu versions had smaller shares.

Thug Life spans two timelines and follows mafia kingpin Rangaraaya Sakthivel through betrayal and revenge. Despite an ambitious storyline and a star-studded cast (including Trisha Krishnan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, and Joju George), early audience response has been mixed, with criticism focused on weak writing and lack of emotional depth.

The film received praise for technical elements like A. R. Rahman’s music and Ravi K. Chandran’s cinematography. Shot across multiple locations, the movie was earlier titled Kamal Haasan 234. The coming weekdays will be crucial for the film’s success, especially given its high production costs.
