Work on climate resilience agriculture for greater good of farmers: Atul Bora
Assam Agriculture Minister Atul Bora asked the Assam Agricultural University to work on climate resilience agriculture for the greater interest of the farmers.
Bora said that each eligible farmer of the State must get the benefit of PM- Kisan scheme.
He was addressing on the second day of the two-day workshop on “Reasons for Variations in Agriculture Productivity across the State” organised by Department of Agriculture.
While addressing the Workshop, the Agriculture Minister asked the Agriculture Officers from across the State to work on a war footing manner so that each eligible farmer of Assam can avail the benefit of the PM-Kisan scheme. On the 27th February 2023, the 13th instalment of the PM-Kisan scheme which was centrally released by Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi from Karnataka, farmers of Assam received an amount of approximately Rupees 174 crore.
He said that Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has given stress on becoming Assam as one of the best State among the five frontier States of the country by developing agriculture and its allied sector. “We should work hard to fulfil the vision of our Chief Minister”.
Bora urged on strengthening the different Farmers Producers Companies of the State along with the re-organisation of Pathar Parichalana Samities for increasing farmers’ income. He further said that, in order to uplift the Agricultural Sector, the Agriculture and Irrigation Department must work together so that the irrigation facilities could be assured to farming community of the State.
Focussing on the climate changes and its impacts on agriculture sector, Agriculture Minister Bora appealed the Assam Agricultural University to work on climate resilience agriculture for the greater interest of the farmers. All departmental officers should encourage the agri entrepreneurs of the State to get the benefit of Agriculture Infrastructure Fund.
Bora highlighted on the different new departmental initiatives like Assam Millet Mission, Assam Fodder Mission, Assam Floriculture Mission etc. and requested all officers and employees to work hard.
