Director Dharmesh Darshan asserted that the success of Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2 has encouraged him to make a sequel to ‘classic’ Dhadkan.

The success of Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2 has inspired filmmakers and producers to revive themselves by making sequels to their iconic blockbusters. Director Dharmesh Darshan is all set to make a sequel to his blockbuster love drama Dhadkan. The romantic drama was released in 2000 and it starred Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, and Shilpa Shetty in the lead.

As Bollywood Hungama reported, Dharmesh confirmed that he has been offered Dhadkan 2 by producer Ratan Jain. He told the portal that a lot of people have repeatedly asked him when he will be back with a film. “People are missing the kind of work I did, and it makes me happy. Apart from Raja Hindustani (1996), the one film people particularly ask me about is Dhadkan and whether I’ll be doing its sequel,” asserted the director.

Dharmesh confirmed that he has been offered Dhadkan 2 by Mr Ratan Jain (Dhadkan producer). The producer was offering the sequel to Dharmesh for a decade. But he was resisting, “I was not sure since I have been told that Dhadkan is a classic. It’s like making the second part of Kabhi Kabhie (1976).”

Dharmesh confessed that the success of Gadar 2 has made him confident about Dhadkan 2. The director said, “Dhadkan has stood the test of time. I don’t believe in encashing on it. But now people have gone hammer and tongs I guess after the monstrous success of Gadar 2. Hence, the film was offered yet again to me in the last 10-15 days.”

When asked whether Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty and Shilpa Shetty will reprise their roles in Dhadkan 2, Dharmesh Darshan replied, “I haven’t thought about the casting at all.” He concluded by saying that he has 2-3 ideas with possibilities of interesting and different castings.” For Dhadkan, Suniel Shetty was awarded his first Filmfare Award for Best Villain.
