The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused IPS officer Ashish Singh of showing favouritism to the Biju Janata Dal (BJD).
The party filed a complaint against the IPS officer at the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday.
The BJP had earlier made allegations against Singh before the ECI. Acting on the allegation, the ECI had on April 5 directed the immediate removal of Ashish Singh from the post of IG(Western range).
Following the ECI order, the state government posted him as IG at the CMO, the BJP pointed out.
The BJP alleged that despite being a government officer, Singh has been working for the BJD and is involved in strategies to ensure BJD’s win by hook or by crook which is a serious professional misconduct.
In the letter to the ECI, the BJP said,” We wish to bring to your notice the continuing serious professional misconduct on the part of Ashish Singh, IPS, (RR:2004), presently posted as IG (Security of Chief Minister, Odisha) who is acting as an extended arm of the ruling party in the State.”
It alleged that the ruling BJD government is simply hoodwinking the spirit of instructions of ECI, appointed Ashish Singh, IPS, to a more important and crucial position in CM’s establishment, so that he can continue to monitor and strategise the election campaign for Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in Odisha.
However, no comments from the BJD or the IPS officer were obtained.
