All the schools in Gautam Budha Nagar district have been asked to conduct classes online from pre school up to class 9 until November 10 with deteriorating air quality, a notification read on Tuesday.
“In view of the poor air quality, all schools of the District Gautam Budha Nagar are directed to follow the implementation of the Graded Responses Action Plan Stage 4 order by discontinuing physical classes from Pre School to Class 9th up to 10 November and conduct lessons in online mode,” DM Gautam Budha Nagar said in a notification.
The Gurugram administration last week ordered suspension of classes from nursery to class for all private and government educational institutions of the district from November 7, until further orders. Earlier, the Haryana government had asked the deputy commissioners in the NCR to assess the situation in their districts and take a call on closing schools. For the last few days, the AQI has turned ‘severe’ in some districts, including Gurugram.
Delhi’s Environment Minister Gopal Rai on Monday, following a meet chaired by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, announced that the government extended the closure of schools for students in Classes 6, 7, 8, 9, and 11 grades until November 10, in addition to the existing closure of schools up to Class 5.
However, board exams for Classes 10 and 12 will proceed as scheduled.
Delhi’s air quality, previously in the “severe” category for five consecutive days, deteriorated to the “very poor” category on Tuesday. PM2.5 concentration, known for health issues, exceeded the government’s safe limit by seven to eight times, reaching 30 to 40 times the World Health Organization’s recommended level.
Several cities in neighbouring Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh have also reported hazardous air quality. Ghaziabad recorded an AQI of 338, Gurugram 364, Noida 348, Greater Noida 439 and Faridabad 382.
